Snippet rules
What decides where Google cuts your snippet.
Six things worth knowing before you write your next title tag and meta description.
Pixels, not characters
Google cuts desktop titles at about 600px. Wide letters like W and M use up that space faster than i and l, so a character count alone can mislead you.
Mobile shows less
On phones the description usually stops around 680px. Put the reason to click in the first sentence so it survives on every screen.
Lead with the keyword
Searchers scan the start of the title. Put the main phrase first and keep the brand name at the end, where a cut costs you little.
Bold words pull the eye
Google bolds words that match the search. Write the description around the phrase people type so it gets highlighted.
Google can rewrite it
If the title or description does not match the page, Google may write its own. A clear snippet that matches the content is the one most likely to stay.
Every page needs its own
Duplicate titles and descriptions make pages compete with each other. Give each page a snippet that says what only that page offers.
